Laylatul Qadr

A night worth a thousand months

Laylatul Qadr, also known as The Night of Power, is one of the most sacred nights in Islam. It is the night when the Qur'an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). Allah describes this night as being “better than a thousand months” (Qur’an 97:3), meaning that worship performed on this night is more rewarding than worship carried out over 83 years.

Virtues & Rewards of Laylatul Qadr

Forgiveness of sinsThe Prophet ﷺ said:

  • “Whoever stands (in prayer) during Laylatul Qadr with faith and hope in the reward of Allah, all his previous sins will be forgiven.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
  • A night of peace and blessings – Allah says:
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (Qur’an 97:3-5)
  • The descent of angels – Laylatul Qadr is a night when countless angels, including Angel Jibreel, descend to the earth, filling it with peace and blessings.
