Honoring Our Mother’s Legacy: A Tribute to Strength, Patience, and Faith

We, her four children, have launched this initiative in memory of our beloved mother—a woman of unwavering faith, boundless love, and immeasurable strength. As an immigrant and single mother, she carried the weight of both motherhood and fatherhood with quiet dignity and relentless perseverance. She was our protector, our guide, and our dearest friend, always keeping Allah (SWT) at the center of her life.

Her journey was not easy. She faced life’s hardships with immense patience, carrying not only the struggles of raising her children alone but also enduring the trials of a terminal illness. Even in pain, she smiled. Even in difficulty, she gave. Even in suffering, she continued to put us before herself. She never allowed her struggles to shake her faith; rather, they strengthened it.

But our mother was not just a figure of resilience and patience—she was a force of joy, a spirit of adventure, and a reflection of Allah’s (SWT) beauty in the world. She found immense happiness in exploring Allah’s creation and creating cherished memories with us, whether it was feeling the waves at the beach or watching the sunset on Carlton Hill.

Her humor was a gift—she had a way of making us laugh even when life felt heavy, bringing light to even the simplest moments. She never let hardship define her, nor did she ever allow us to feel like a burden. She never complained, even when she had every reason to. With her, we never felt that we were lacking anything, because her love, presence, and unwavering faith were more than enough.

Through the way she lived, she taught us to embrace life with joy, to be mindful of Allah (SWT) in all that we do, and to place our trust in Him through every turn in life.

Our mother was a true believer, constantly expressing gratitude to Allah (SWT). Every moment, she would say in our mother tongue:

“However grateful we are to Allah, it is never enough.”

At the time, these words reminded us to be thankful in all circumstances. But now that she has returned to her Creator, they carry a much deeper meaning—a truth that resonates in our hearts and souls. Indeed, our gratitude to Him is an unending journey, one that does not end with loss but continues through love, remembrance, and action.

In honor of our mother’s light and the sacrifices she made, we dedicate this initiative to supporting single mothers in our community—women who, like her, give everything for their children while carrying burdens few can fully understand.

The Sacred Status of Mothers in Islam

Allah (SWT) has raised the status of mothers to a place of immense honor, commanding us to cherish, respect, and care for them. He reminds us in Surah Luqman (31:14):

“We have commanded people to be good to their parents: their mothers carried them, with strain upon strain, and it takes two years to wean them. Give thanks to Me and to your parents — all will return to Me.”

A mother’s journey begins before her child takes their first breath. She carries the burden of pregnancy, endures the agonising pain of childbirth, and sacrifices her own comfort so her child can thrive. She is the one who prays for her child before they even learn to pray for themselves.

Yet, beyond the physical sacrifices, there is a silent strength that only a mother knows—the patience to endure, the resilience to push forward, and the love that never fades no matter how heavy the burden becomes.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) reminded us of the depth of a mother’s status when he said:

“Paradise lies under the feet of the mother.” (Ibn Majah 2771)

For those of us who have lost our mothers, we are left with a void no one else can fill. But we are also left with an opportunity—to honor them, to uphold the lessons they instilled in us, and to continue their legacy through acts of kindness and service.

The Purpose of This Initiative

Single mothers walk a path that is often unseen and unspoken. They carry the weight of two roles, bear the struggles of financial hardship, and navigate the challenges of raising children alone. Many do so without the support of family or a community to lean on.

This initiative is not just about charity; it is about recognition. It is about seeing these women, acknowledging their sacrifices, and standing beside them as they stand alone for their children.

To honor our mother’s memory—and the resilience of all single mothers—we invite you to join us in raising funds for essential living items for single mothers in Edinburgh.

Your donations will go directly to families in the form of food vouchers and care packages, ensuring that these mothers and their children receive the support they need regardless of thier faith as Ramadan comes to a close.

A Prayer for All Mothers

Ya Allah, accept this effort as sadaqah jariyah for our mother, a woman whose love and sacrifices shaped our lives. Raise her rank in Jannah, surround her with Your mercy, and reunite us with her in the highest levels of Paradise.

Ya Allah, ease the burdens of every single mother struggling in silence. Grant them strength beyond their trials, provision beyond their means, and patience beyond their exhaustion. Make their children a source of joy in this world and a means of elevation in the Hereafter.

Ya Allah, bless every person who contributes to this cause. Multiply their rewards, grant them prosperity in both this life and the next, and make them among those who uphold the honor of motherhood as You have commanded.

Jazakum Allahu Khayran for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.
